Damn! Peace be with him. I was thinking of him just a couple of days ago when looking at boards for "The Paper Chase" which was talking about the possibility of resurrecting that 70's/80's series based on the '73 film and people were wondering who could possibly take over from John Houseman who became legendary in the role of Professor Kingsfield. I thought of David Ogden Stiers who played a younger version of Houseman in Woody Allen's "Another Woman" and matched up with him physically and in diction. Most people will remember him mostly from MASH, but right before he got that role, on "Mary Tyler Moore" he played a station executive with a stuttering problem who (contrary to the usual depiction of stutterers as weak) also had a malignant streak. It was a great character I wish we had seen more of.

shareLoved him in that Frasier episode in 2003, "Fathers and sons" where he has so much in common with Frasier and Niles Martin was worried he might be their biological father. Martin's worries are over when he finds out that Leland was gay.
I thought his role on MASH was an excellent one. A good foil and contrast to Hawkeye and BJ. He was a fine character actor.
I don't think I saw that particular Frasier episode. I'll have to find it and watch it.
