His wife is WAY too young for him

I just found out that his wife is less than half his age!! When they married in 2013, Stewart was 73 and his wife was 35. I had a lot of respect for this man (Star Trek), but now I'm sitting here scratching my head...

To put this into perspective - I'm 35 myself. Would I go out with a 73 year old woman (older than my mother)? You can guess the answer.

reply

I know more than one female around 35 years who would entertain the thought of marrying Picard. He's a stallion, what can I say?

reply

Maybe it's none of your business, OP.

reply

Exactly.

I'm almost 60 and have met some 22 year old women I'd love to get jiggy with. Since I'm a pleasant and trustworthy person I think they don't mind me, and I harbor no belief something might spark between us, but they are absolutely lovely and charming young ladies. Heck, my other friend Marissa drives me crazy and she's 33, still too young. I heard there's a formula for what age you should expect your date to be. Take half of your age and add 7 years. I'm looking at a 37 year old at the youngest.
But you Go! young man Patrick Stewart. I'm jealous.

reply

That formula comes from the Greek philosopher Plato. And contrary to the popular understanding, it was not supposed to be a minimum age. It was supposed to be the EXACT ratio to start a relationship.

reply

That's interesting, if I am to believe it whole heartedly. I try not to assume the older person is always a guy and the younger always a female. These days I guess we should throw out gender stereotypes entirely, but I'd love to meet a healthy and smart 37 yo woman who likes me. I'm having a hard enough time hanging on to my 56 year old female pal. We used to date seriously, and somehow we've remained friends over the years. She always seems to like me but at the same time keeps me at arm's length. She called last night after I fell asleep. I'm not sure why. Our old buddy Bill Cosby back when he was funny had a bit about what women are like. "Come here! Come here! Come here! Go away! Go away! Go away!"

reply

When I become an oldster, I'm going to go with the formula - date 2 women at the same time that are half your age, or 3 women that are 1/3 of your age. It's all about balance and symmetry!

reply

As long as they're both adults, why does it matter?

reply

Exactly.

reply

kind of a glib answer

reply

How so?

reply

Your example is lame. Men age better than women. You never see young men with old women. And it's for Stewart and his wife to decide if she's too young for him not you.

reply

Yeah, people are so negative and judgmental about other people's relationships, when it's nobody's business but the people who are in those relationships.

macron

reply

It can work.
The difference between Tony Randall and his second wife was even more extreme and they stayed together until he passed. And lets not forget Picasso who was dating and making babies with 20 year olds when he was in nineties.

reply

Why scratch your head about it. If you were a 70 something and was given the opportunity of boinking another 70 something or a 30 something which would you do? See, not hard to understand.

reply

There is nothing illegal or immoral about it. It's up to her, and none of our business.
