Dame Maggie Smith becomes a Companion of Honour

Dame Maggie Smith has been appointed a Companion of Honour in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. The award, marking service of national importance, can be held by 65 people in the UK at one time.

Fellow actors Dame Judi Dench and Sir Ian McKellen received it in 2005 and 2008 respectively.
