Published today, and the author is Michael Coveney, who wrote her other (out of print) biography. I just love Maggie's remark to him when she found out about the new book: "You're digging me up again" 

Sadly the new updated biography is a real disappointment.
It goes into very little detail....

reply

Well, look at it this way---if it went into too much detail, the reactionary-type fans would be moaning about how it is disrespectfully dissecting the private details of Maggie's life. So, by not going into too much detail, the author avoids flack from those silly critics. But, ya can't please everyone.

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!

reply

He would never go into much detail about her private life, anyway, as he can't access that information. Friends and family have been quite circumspect in what they've told him, knowing how private she is.

reply

I know. Just remembering how fans acted a while back concerning some of the more personal details of her life. Still can't get over how hateful everyone was, as though that info had never been published anywhere before, and as though no one was allowed to express an opinion on it!

Anyway, speaking of the point you made that he can't access that information, maybe he can't access it directly, but it's available through secondary sources and old interviews with folks who knew her. So, if he chooses not to include any of that, well, he's just playing it safe. Better safe than sorry, I suppose.

I didn't mean her private life - I meant details about the work, how it came about etc... The authors opinion etc, seems entirely absent!

I assumed you meant her private life because in the first book, his opinion about her work is expressed very clearly throughout, so why he's apparently changed tack is a mystery...
