81 and still going!

She's incredible.

reply

She is indeed.

I want to know what she's going to do next. She must have scripts waiting.

It looks like they're writing her off Downton Abbey with much ado made in the movie of her terminal condition. Does Julian Fellowes REALLY want to kill off everyone's favorite character?

reply

It seems like the older she gets, the more precious her roles become. I loved her in MY OLD LADY, THE SECOND BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL, and two of my favorites = KEEPING MUM, and LADIES IN LAVENDER.

Her filmography is very interesting in her middle-age years. I like watching her in movies such as CALIFORNIA SUITE, THE LONELY PASSION OF JUDITH HEARNE, TRAVELS WITH MY AUNT, and others. But, I do think that seniority and the 21st century has been best for her, in terms of her film work. And I'm not even counting Harry Potter when I say that!

Her movies made in the 2000s and now 2010s have been among the sweetest, loveliest little films. So, I definitely hope she has more coming soon!

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!

Realllly great actress, hope she will still play in future.👍

reply

I feel like she's been 81 for a few decades.

She may give the impression that she is still going strong but she lives with

Graves' disease, for which she underwent radiotherapy and optical surgery

Osteoporosis

Breast cancer which she says "has left her too frightened to tread the boards"

Myopia, yet is obliged to do publicly tours without her spectacles and appear on a chat show for the first time in 42 years because it "can be absolutely terrifying … to appear on one own" without a script.

Osteoporosis?

I hope a stunt-double was used in that out-of-control wheelchair scene in Lady In A Van.

reply

I just love her!
