I happen to believe, in his mind, he didn't do a thing. I really believe that. This guy has been lying about the murders for close to 28 years now. After lying so many times, literally thousands - he has convinced himself that in fact, he is innocent. He sincerely believes he's a wrongfully accused man persecuted by the LAPD. So, to answer the question, he doesn't have any problem living with himself because he believes someone else committed those murders.
