His middling career has largely fizzled out.

While Schneider was popular during his Saturday Night live Days, was briefly popular as a comedic actor in his own projects and had what appeared to be a solid career as a character actor in comedic films, after mid-2000s things began to slow down for him. Since then, he’s been unable to rekindle his career as even his Netflix series is unlikely to achieve a third season.

There are multiple reasons for Schneider’s failure to thrive. They include:

The films where he’s the star have never cracked the $100 million USD box office mark - He just isn’t successful enough to out in is own films.

He had no significant television career after SNL - His two major roles (Men Behaving Badly and his self-titled sitcom, Rob) failed miserably. Everything else was Schneider is secondary roles. There was nothing on TV to draw in new fans

His film roles were viewed as “gifts” given to him by his close friend, Adam Sandler - Schneider allowed himself to be known as one of “Adam’s guys” and that meant that his career rose and sank as Sandler’s did.

Schneider allowed his social and political views to become too prominent - His anti-vaxxer campaigns and his switching party affiliations probably aren’t stances that he needed to take if his plan was to remain a sought-after comedic actor.

He’s got a reputation as being difficult - Many people don’t want to work with him (especially after the issues on Men Behaving Badly and after his meltdown against a critic who disliked his role the Deuce Bigelow sequel). Since he also doesn’t have a reputation as being a big box office draw, Schneider desirability as a performer has diminished greatly.

Rob Schneider is still out there.

However fewer people care..and his career reflects that fact.

I heard he pissed off Hollyweird by not making Deuce Bigelow 3 and they basically banished him.

Rob should be making Netflix movies. That's exactly his venue.

Seriously. Low rent cheeseball comedies cranked out one after another. Make em as silly and naughty as you want to with no worry of box office. It's right in his wheelhouse.

He'd be a perfect fit with Guttenberg...they could be lousy cops chasing a crime boss or a murder suspect...the dialogue would be worth the price of admission

He lost that boyish charm, similar to Matthew Broderick's career.

Broderick has had a respectable career in theater. He's won two Tonies

Not even comparable to Schneider, who just straight-up can't get work because he sucks so bad

Show biz can be very fickle. Lots of talented people never make a living out of it. Compared to the thousands that are washed out of the system every year, Schneider has had a brilliant career

Maybe I'm harsh, but it's being harsh on an internet message board. It means nothing. He still has his nice life and can lean on his buddy Adam Sandler whenever he's really hard-up for work, so I'm not gonna be too sympathetic with him

His legacy is that of a guy who made notoriously bad movies. Maybe he has talent, that's not for me to determine. I actually kind of like The Hot Chick. Who am I? Not an authority on comedic/acting ability. But I'm not gonna sugarcoat his rep either

I mean, I get a kick out of shitting on him because he is a posterboy for bad movies. But at the end of the day he gets to feed his kids with money made from his films. That is a luxury that few can claim. His life is better than most people's lives on this planet. So I don't feel bad for shitting on his pathetic career.

And Matthew Broderick is a good actor who was a victim of typecasting in the movie industry after the 80s. It's simply not fair to compare a clown like Schneider to a legit actor like Broderick

He's an anti-vaxx idiot and Deplorable--that's what happened to him. It's amusing to me how celebrities think they're so untouchable that they can start spouting off and not have their careers impacted. You can only do that if you're reasonably intelligent, but people like Schneider are dumb as a box of rocks, so all their opinions do is make them look ignorant.

There was a time in the early 2000s when it looked like Rob Schneider was going to be the next Adam Sandler. A fellow Saturday Night Live vet, Schneider stole scenes in a few Happy Madison comedies, particularly The Waterboy (“you can do it!”) and his solo star vehicle debut, Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, was a smash, raking in over 90 million dollars worldwide. His follow-ups, including The Animal, Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, The Benchwarmers and The Hot Chick (where he memorably switched bodies with Rachel McAdams), were critically savaged but still made money. Yet, the budgets got smaller. So he gradually started making his way to the DTV market while still appearing in the occasional Sandler flick, usually under heavy makeup and often portraying another ethnicity.

So what happened? Did Schneider’s politics or style of comedy relegate him to a smaller audience?
