Lowdown (Contains Spoilers)

I've just finished catching up with this series, which has made a hop, skip and jump over the eqautor and been screened on BBC4 in recent weeks. If your not familiar with it, it's a comedy about a hapless newspaper columnist - Alex - and photographer, Bob, who find themselves in different scrapes each week in order to stop their paper from going under. Geoffrey narrates.

The first episode, despite having great write-ups in the papers over here, I felt came off as lukewarm, but the second definitely picked up and I was hooked!

My fave moments include (some quotes are more approximations):

- Rita, Alex's on/off girlfriend sleeping with a number of celebrities.

- Alex: 'How am I to trust you if you keep sleeping with other people?'
Rita: 'How am I supposed to know I'm not to do that?'

- Alex's Asian colleague pointing out very minor grammatical errors in Alex's columns.

- Alex's doctor and friend, Dr James, whom Alex visits almost weekly and often gets misdiagnosed for something far more serious, and even fatal, than what he actually has.

- Alex, when introducing the various people sat around the table at the nightclub: 'Bob; my colleague, my doctor, two strippers...'

- Hope van der Bloom: 'I'm going to have a baby.'
Alex: 'Congratulations! When?'
Hope: 'Next year.'
Alex looks confused as he realises this is a biological impossibility.

- Geoffrey's sumptuous voice!

- Geoffrey (actually I think he's credited as 'Narrator'): 'Thus ends the shortest car chase in television history.'- when Alex and Bob are chasing a famous tennis player, only to plough into another car moiments into the pursuit.

- Geoffrey: 'This was undoubtedly the most brutal rejection Alex had experienced, over something he'd never wanted in the first place.' - when Hope is propositioning for a sperm donor; Alex thinks she's going to ask him, only for her to make the request to Bob.

- Geoffrey's cameo appearance as God!

- Geoffrey's crestfallen look when Alex implies he doesn't want to spend eternity with him.

Great series - I wholeheartedly recommend it!
