Or is it only considered bullying if used against minors? You know in high school where kids bully other kids with words (not physical) that can lead some people to commit suicide? I think some got arrested over these unless its just incidents where they encourage someone to self-harm. When does it cross the line or are there any lines to begin with?
Psychopath kids know that they can bully other kids in school and they won't get in trouble for it because they are underage. Once a person is over 18 they can choose to avoid being in places where psychopath people are allowed to verbally bully people, such as awards shows. Kids are pretty much forced to go to school by the law and by their parents so kids in school cannot escape bullying in school.
Does this logic (they know they won't get into trouble) apply when :
- you are a comedian and on stage
- you are for example some rapper making a diss song (imagine Hit'em Up)
- you use the relatively safe and controlled environment of ... let's say ... a very prestigious awards show ?
I don't personally agree that bullying magically stops when you're 18. You don't magically get the ability to ignore bullying; you may get the chance to avoid places where bullying would occur, but that doesnt mean it doesnt affect you.
I think those are completely different issues. If we are talking about a comedian on stage, it should be understood that they are up there telling jokes and trying to make people laugh. No one should take them too seriously.
I’m everyday life, it could go either way, you have to be careful and know who you are talking too.
But yes it can be used as a form of bullying. People can say things as a joke that aren’t really a joke. Or if multiple people gang up to rip on the same person.
This is the correct response. Comedians are not bullies. They make jokes and it’s not mean spirited. You go back to the days of Richard Pryor or Don Rickles and they went a lot harder than a simple haircut joke. Bullying happens when a joke is done for the purpose of making someone feel bad and that person is usually the only target as opposed to comedians just making jokes about everyone (particularly people they like and have worked with multiple times).
What it comes down to it is that some people have fragile egos and misplaced anger. The Smiths were laughing when he was making jokes about Javier Bardeem and whoever else. They were having very public marital issues and were frustrated and Chris Rock ended up as tue target for all of Will Smith’s anger in that moment.
Hmm, yeah, I see what you guys mean now. Those that say it makes them feel bad then are as is the title of his Netflix special, Selective Outrage.
As for Chris, he attacked her because she attacked him first. He said in his special that Jada attacked him by telling him to quit his job because Will didn't win some award in the movie Emancipation (concussion).
