Has the controversy last winter completely destroyed her career?
Topic
shareI doubt it. What was the controversy?
"Nihil sanctum estne?"
She said that blacks boycotting the Oscars was anti-white.
I just wanna know if she still has a career after that.
No. Her career is still going strong and she's amongst the strongest contenders for roles within her age range and type.
.
What she said was that saying it should've been some black nominees instead of these ones is anti-white. Saying this person shouldn't be nominated cause they're white is anti-white.
Personally, I think the Oscar nominations were just a mirror of an ongoing issue with the industry. It's not Oscars that are so white but Hollywood. The fact that all the nominees were white instead of 95% of them (like other years) doesn't mean the 2015 Oscars are more racist. If you're putting all your eggs on a Will Smith and Idris Elba shaped basket, then there's a high risk of no diversity in the nominations. It's 2 actors out of another 10 or 15 competing for a nomination.
It's not the Oscars. It's casting agents and producers who either don't cast a diverse ensemble or don't back actors and movies for Oscar "for your consideration" type of campaigns.
Couldn't agree more with you
shareThat nails it. The rules for the game are rigged. A culture of racism does not necessarily need racists. I guess that is something one should acknowledge when trying to make changes. There isn't a single head one could cut off and solve the problem.
Rampling made a simple misjudgement in trying to deflect the issue the way she did. It was a lazy statement. But after all she is an actress, not a sociologist. This gives her the bytaste of an old sour conservative, but I doubt it does discredit her art or her general commitment to humanism in any way.
Charlotte never work closely with Hollywood. I bet she's safe.
