David Morse: bad guy in every movie ever made.

he's a great actor and all, but is anyone else sick of him being the bad guy/a-hole in EVERY MOVIE?
16 blocks, suburbia, the Rock, the Long Kiss Goodnight, the Negotiator, etc etc.

its almost to the point where if i see him in a movie, the movie is ruined, because it is almost guarenteed that he going to play a schmuck.

cuz im vicious and delicious fergali-(gunshot)

Not really. Green Mile is one film that stands out. And The Negotiator??? Wasn't he like the only good cop on the force in that film?

But I see what you mean. He does play alot of baddies. But he does it well.

I think the tough guy roles suit him....

I am a huge fan of David and have seen almost every movie he has made. Yes, he does get character roles of the bad guy (above poster, I too think it suits him). But he has had quite a few roles as the good guy. George B for instance. Quite touching. Hearts in Atlantis... not really a bad guy either. Contact, albeit a short role, he played a loving father. I think he was WONDERFUL in The Green Mile... and definitely not the bad guy. I wish he would have beat Percy up completely (just my opinion). lol He was a voice in Madeline... now you know as well as I do that Madeline, a cartoon for children is not a bad role. :) The Good Son, he played a father figure, albeit another short role. He played a doctor in several movies from St. Elsewhere to Miracle on Interstate 880. He wasn't a bad man in Indian Runner, a wonderful movie. He also wasn't a bad man so to speak in The Slaughter Rule, and the only reason he was so called "bad boy" in Down in the Valley was because he was trying to protect his daughter from that boyfriend of hers. Proof of Life, yes he was a little snotty to his wife at first but once kidnapped he was broken and beaten and had no way of being the "bad guy".

I won't go on (because I could talk about this for hours), but to answer your statement, no, he hasn't played a bad guy in every movie made. Anyway, check out a few of his other movies and you will find he is a very talented versatile actor who deserves more recognition for his talent.

PS, don't you mean Disturbia instead of Suburbia?

reply

He's a good guy in The Rock!

He's fighting for a just cause, and when it goes to far, he tries to put a stop to it.

He was absolutely brilliant as the redheaded apocalypse nut who releases the doomsday virus in "Twelve Monkeys." The scene when he opens the bottle for the guard at the airport...his expressions throughout...fear, awe, sadistic pleasure, twisted humor...WOW. Just, WOW. Great, great actor. His eerie presence was one of the central factors which made that film so memorable.

You obviously havent seen him in Shuang Tong (Double Vision)! That was the first time I ever stood up and paid attention to how amazing his acting is

David Morse played a 1920's lawyer in "Cross of Fire," a TV movie based on the true story of how close the KKK came to getting a candidate nominated for president in the 1920's. His character goes up against a powerful Klan "officer" and the movie is based on the true story of Madge Oberholzer. Morse looks very young and he plays this role of a bashful suitor and inexperienced attorney who saves the day. A bit hokey, but he's terrific.

Sometimes he has a very wry expression on his face when he's playing a baddie - let's face it, a character actor or actress will always work.
