This is why Tattoo quit the last season of Fantasy Island. Not a very wise decision.

Montalban was the lead, and had three decades of movie and television stardom behind him. Villechaize was unknown, and was novelty casting for the comedic effect of his size and voice. Montalban was in many more scenes, and had a lot more lines to learn. It makes perfect sense that he should get paid more, a lot more.

Tattoo had a huge ego and that was his downfall. Classic case of "Little Man Syndrome".

Fantasy Island paid their actor's by the pound, though.

I miss the old days of weird serial dramas like Fantasy Island. There was always an underlying sinisterness to Mr Rourke and Tattoo. It was like they were demon agents of Satan, offering dubious allusions of salvation for unsuspecting but just as unsavory "guests" who, let's admit it, were seeking short cuts to a fulfilling life.
