Did anyone play a bitter old man better than he did?

Ha!

When I was growing up Ray was a bald, fat, ugly man who excelled at playing a bitter old man. When I was older, I saw his early films and realized he was once thin and handsome with a magnificent head of hair. I then understood his later career.

He had an excellent handle on the "mid-Atlantic" accent, along with Carey Grant. It made him seem testy and authoritative without being too obviously British. I particularly loved his small role in "Battlestar Galactica" as the councilman who is the one causing all the problems but also one who proves to be easily manipulated. It's a shame he was only in one episode but perhaps his character is killed offscreen?

Milland was great all-round. As a young man he was a great romantic lead. Also had a nice flair for comedy, even as he got older.
