Why does everyone say she ruined her career by leaving Cheers???? She stayed on it for FIVE seasons which is almost more than stars of television today do. You're telling me that if she had stayed another three or four then she would have had this amazing film career? She gets way too much flak and deserves a much bigger legacy. The woman is a comedic genius!

I agree too, as much as I didn't want Shelley to leave as Diane and even though I love Kirstie as Rebecca I would never have wanted to see Shelley unhappily stay with the show if her heart wasn't in it, thats not fair to herself and the audience. She left on a high and even though her post Cheers career was far from massively successful she did alright and appeared ins everal great memorable movies such as Troop beverly Hills.
And yes 5 seasons is imo a very long time to stay on a TV show playing the same character. Respect to Shelley!!

she stayed one season too many. reminds me of rob morrow on northern exposure. I like the last season best. rob (and shelley) were just too whiny and annoying.
