Why didn't Cleavon Little go on to make many more feature films after Blazing Saddles?

Multiple reasons, including:

1. Little eschewed most of the Blaxploitation films that were the mainstays for Black actors in the 1970s - Had he chosen to, he could have perhaps starred in multiple efforts during that time as he was one of the major Black performers in that era.

2. Little seems to have preferred Broadway acting and episodic television - Little worked more on the stage than he did in films; and episodic television seems to be what he did to pay the bills, Films never seemed to be a big draw for him.

3. His efforts besides Blazing Saddles weren’t big draws at the box office - Several of his efforts (Greased Lightning, Scavenger Hunt, and High Risk) had they hit likely would have propelled Little into the upper stratosphere on late 1970s/early 1980s character actors. Unfortunately the all performed poorly and Little was largely forgotten by moviegoers.

4. Little was bisexual - Like several other closeted gay and bisexual Black actors, Little walked a fine line as he could have been outed at any time and that would have cost him his career.

5. There were a finite number of roles - Little was in competition with such luminaries as Richard Pryor, Louis Gossett Jr., Dorian Harewood, Sidney Poitier, Howard Rollins, Carl Weathers, etc. for the limited number of roles available to Black actors at the time. Little was a tall (6′0″) but he had a slight build and so likely wouldn’t have been considered for many of the action roles that Weathers, Gossett, and Harewood obtained. He also was funny, but not as funny as Pryor and the newcomer at the time Eddie Murphy. Basically the competition was fierce and Little’s career suffered as a result.

I know of at least ten films he made after Blazing Saddles. I'm sure there were more.

Him being a gay/bisexual Black guy, i think youre going overboard with that comment.

Mark Patton was gay but Mark Patton ruined his own career where he partied alot for a gay man during the early 1980s.

SO what if Cleavon Little was bi or gay. Who cares. he was a decent funny actor at the time for Blazing Saddles and he was alright in Once Bitten.

Those are the only two movies i grew up watching him in back then in the 1980s

A gay theater kid. Shocking. I didn't know he kept getting work outside of film. That's pretty cool. From everything I ever read, film making is horrible for actors. All sitting around all day waiting to work for three minutes. They far prefer the audience and immediate gratification.
