Yet another show in which a woman is throwing men around like ragdolls....

....just like every other cop/action show out there these days. These women are all masterful experts in kung-fu...and they never take a blow themselves. They simply throw several men around like it was nothing.

Producers and writers are trying to slam the pendulum the other way....too far and too fast....which ends-up making these shows just seem silly, condescending and pandering.

I get that you want young women to see women on TV being equal in every way to men, including in fights. But if you were truly depicting 50/50 "equality"....half the time the woman would get their ass kicked (not that anyone wants to see that).

And, if you were to try and depict some semblance of realism....85% of the time, the woman in the fight would get her ass kicked. (Again, not that ANYONE wants to see that). So instead...we show young women who are watching these show...a false sense of over-empowerment....by constantly showing a woman throwing men around in fights, never sustaining a blow, and always winning the fight with nary a scratch.

I'm all for equality. But what we're seeing on-screen these days has little semblance of "equal". It's all rather one-sided, actually.

Ikr. They should have made her a competitive eater or something believable like that.

lolz

reply

Not funny. She's big but she is damn beautiful! I hope she never loses all of her weight.

reply

Most professional competition eaters are actually slim. They're basically athletes.

I have been a repo agent for years. I have taken down men twice my size. My husband is 6'5 and weighs 300lbs. I have taken on men as big as him with no problem. I am 5'6 and weigh 145. It's all about training.

reply

And let's be honest, Queen Latifah is a big woman so it's probably not too hard for her.

reply

Probably not :) I love her and look forward to watching her new show :) She's gorgeous!

reply

I was kind of wondering what happened to her anyway.

reply

She did go down. She got whacked in the head. She has training. It's not impossible to take down someone bigger than you. Especially if you have the know how.

reply

It’s not impossible. Bruce Lee, at 140 ponds, could and did that; but this heffer is like, at best, 20 percent body fat and has “training” derived from the script. Please. A woman cannot fight toe-to-toe with a man of similar greater musclemass than a man. She can equal him with lower-body strength. She can kick the shit out of him with cunning, but she has to use her opponent’s strength, aggression and intelligence against him. Cf Miyamoto Musashi, A Book of Five Rings.

Nobody at BET knows whereof I speak.

reply

I don't remember the exact scene as it was 9 months ago, but I know she has had her ass kicked more than once on the show and has resorted to using her gun.

I'm not saying that this show is good or based in reality, but I didn't think that she was as kick ass as the OP was making her out to be.

And I can believe that, my friend. I know the uninformed quality of posting on this site—present company excluded!—and I will never watch this show. If the show gives her a weapon—nunchucks, longstick, short sticks, gun—that’s a great and believable equalizer. Most women have lower-body strength at parity with most ordinary men. They do not have upper-body strength parity. This is a broadcast network TV knockoff of an old, actually great show starring Edward Mulhare. They didn’t put a dime’s worth of efforts into it. The producers expect the audience to be sheep and to watch because it stars a BLACK WOMAN and not a white Englishman. That is crass and condescending. I think you’d agree with that. I could say that the strategy is racist and sexist, but I really don’t want to go there. Let’s just say this is a bad idea.

At the very least, cast someone like Gina Carano as the lead.
