So here's what's next for her ...

Attended the PaleyFest closing event tonight in Hollywood, CA. "AHS: Freak Show" was the featured series with cast and crew attending. Despite being heavily medicated or drunk, or maybe both, Jessica confirmed twice that she would NOT be on season 5. She did, HOWEVER, let slip that she and Ryan Murphy are collaborating on a new project (or projects) for her. Sarah Paulson quickly (and quite visibly) hushed her at this point, and the topic changed when another question was asked.

Must admit that as a fan since KING KONG, it was disappointing to see Jessica so looped. She could barely sit up in her chair, and at times, she seemed to mock fellow cast mates and even members of the audience. In spite of all that, she looked amazing, easily 20 years younger than her actual age.

Considering she suffers with severe depression it wouldnt surprise me if she takes something before doing press conferences, interviews, etc to ease the anxiety that im sure she experiences when doing them which would explain her sometimes odd behaviour. Anyway - Yay for new projects!

Well she wasn't the only one. Sarah Paulson was totally wasted, kinda seemed like Michael Chiklis might have been too. I would have wanted to be wasted for that myself. The host sucked, the whole thing seemed really disorganized. Not to mention I think Lange, Paulson, and Chiklis were the only cast members who said anything. The rest might as well not have been there.

Agreed. Pauslon was so obnoxious, conceited and arrogant (she was like that when I saw the AHS panel at PalyFest 3 years ago). And the host was such an amateur - an embarrassment to say the least. He came across as an effeminate bitchy queen and dressed like an 18 year old. I believe he was introduced as a writer for Entertainment Weekly. Kathy Bates was one of the only dignified actors on stage. I did feel bad for the rest. They each talked for maybe a minute each.

Still, am hoping Lange will show up in at least one episode as a guest in season 5's "Hotel."

I am curious though, where has it been documented that Lange suffers from severe depression? I've never heard or read of her speaking of it. It would definitely explain a lot though.

Lastly, I am wondering if she will start directing projects. I read an interview with her at least 20 years ago in which she optioned a novel called "Machine Dreams." She had wanted to direct the big-screen adaptation.

Lange has mentioned experiencing bouts of depression (I don't know how severe), melancholy, loneliness, etc. in past interviews. And I believe in Sam Shepard's memoirs he touches upon her moodiness and rages. Of course, he wasn't exactly a peach to live with.

Jessica Lange acknowledged (US Magazine, 1995) she went through her last depression about two years previously: "and it was really a tough one. And when I came out, I felt like I had gone through something and come out the other end. And now, it seems odd to use the word, but I feel very happy... I had really tremendous mood swings. And I still do. http://talentdevelop.com/articles/Page31.html

Regarding future projects with Ryan Murphy, Ryan mentioned in an interview that he had purchased the rights to "Long Days Journey Into Night" for Jessica to do on Broadway. As for "Machine Dreams," I think that's gone the way of "Cheri"... projects that she lost the rights to due to the passage of time.

Thanks for your update and insights! I still hope that we see her on the big or small screen soon. Hopefully WILD OATS will won't be direct to DVD.

Shirley MacLaine also recently spoke about Lange, stating how impressed she was that Lange could just cry on command like no other. She asked her how she was able to do so, and Lange stated it was from a life of loneliness that she draws that emotion from.

What a stupity you've just siad. The Weinstein Company's behind that movie.

How wonderful! Shirley MacLaine obviously has a lot of respect for Jessica. I'll bet not many performers can cry on command, at least not convincingly. While we're on the subject of MacLaine and Lange, I must say I'm a little concerned about Wild Oats... I'm afraid it's going to end up poorly marketed and overlooked like In Secret.
