I just read somewhere that her mother is from Antigua and her father is from St. Lucia. She is being honored by the Antiguan Tourism board or something like that for her achievements. When I find the link, I will post it!

Curry is Indian not West Indian! So she isn't one of 'them'.

As a Frenchman, I didn't dare to ask !

She obviously has a French name. I suspected her family was from French West Indies (Martinique, Guadeloupe) or Haiti. I did not think of St-Lucy which was a French colony till 1815.

Curry is definitely from India but there are lots of Indians from India living in the West Indies. (The British brought them to the Caribbean as indentured servants.) They brought their national foods (like curry) with them and introduced it to the other nationalities living there. Everyone in the Caribbean (Indian and other nationalities) knows how to make curry. Marianne Jean-Baptiste either know about curry through her West Indian heritage or from being born in a multi-cultural society like London England.

She is of Antiguan and St. Lucian parentage.
