Marianne was absolutely superb in "Secrets and Lies," and should have won the best supporting actress Oscar that year. She lost to Juliette Binoche in "The English Patient."
shareAgreed! That's one of my favotite movies, and she - and the whole cast - were superb. I was JUST watching Without a Trace for the first time, and thought that the actress looked familiar...I was right...it was Marianne. I'll have to start watching "Trace" a ittle more now!

shareI agree that she should have won that year although Juliette Binoche is certainly not a bad choice to win. I was just touched by Marianne's performance in "Secrets & Lies" more and thought the whole cast did a superb job of "not acting" but just becoming the characters they play. Very Mike Leigh. Hope Marianne will team up with Mike Leigh again soon.
shareAbsolutely agree. MJB is one of the greatest actresses to ever come out of britain. She is an amazingly omitted actor with an extraordinary talent, and exquisite emotional range. It breaks my heart that she doesn't get the roles of the recognition that she deserves.
