Why didn't she win an NAACP Image Award?

It's weird how every bio of Marianne Jean-Baptiste makes a point of stating that she became the first black actress to fail to receive an NAACP Image Award nomination for an Oscar nominated role since the establishment of the awards. Is there some sinister significance to this? Was there some weird political thing going on? Why is this constantly mentioned?

I even saw a Google link that said if I subscribed to IMDB PRo I could read the reason why. That was even weirder and I'm not going to pay for a Pro membership just for this when I can ask the IMDB "hive mind"!

No idea, maybe because they didn't want to give it to a British woman. Who won that year?

Loretta Devine. I thought it had something to do with her being English, but Thandie Newton was nominated that year. I guess maybe because she was in Beloved, a US production.

She should have lots of awards she's a terrific actress. I'm watching Broadchurch partly because of her. I enjoyed her on With Out A Trace.
