Well he can't do much worse than a lot of new Who. new Who's often descended into a parody of the classic series with wacky Doctors like Smith and the ridiculous missy. Kong and the Tolkien films have their issues [cartoonish scenes] but seeing as Jacksons a fan of the series i don't think he'd butcher it.

First of all, Matt Smith is a great Doctor, better than Eccleston, Tennent, or Capaldi. If you think wacky Doctors are a new thing, then I would like to introduce you to Patrick Troughton, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, and Sylvester McCoy. I also like Missy, and The Master always had his share of ridiculousness. Hackson would butcher it by proxy of being Peter Hackson.

I've only seen the first part of the Hobbit but if the rest of it's like that then i can't see what some people were complaining about. as for wacky doctors Matt smith took wackiness and fast talking to new heights and Troughton and Tom Baker weren't wacky. a bit eccentric now and then but nothing like Smith.

You also don't get to act like your tastes are better than mine when the original series had things like The Web Planet, the fact that the 1st Doctor years tended to be poorly paced, the grossly repetitive Series 5, Invasion of the Dinosaurs, Robot, Revenge of the Cybermen, the dull and poorly written Series 17, the incredibly uneven Series 18, the just plain moronic Castrovalva, the boring and stupid Time Flight, the bland Five Doctors special, Resurrection of the Daleks which had The Doctor puss out of doing what he should have done to solve the whole situation, the Colin Baker Years, Series 24, the inane Happiness Patrol, Dimensions in Time enough said, and to say nothing of the deeply flawed 96 TV Movie. Yeah, the original series was SO perfect. Take off the rose-tinted glasses and smell some reality.

Pointless quoting the Mcoy and Colin Baker years as i don't particularly like them and most of the problems of the Hartnell to Tom Baker years were because of lack of budget.
you say it was poorly paced but at least it had pacing. new Who apart from a few stories like Blink is mainly running, shouting and explosions.
