Peter Jackson vs. Sam Raimi

Has anyone else realized the amount of parallels these two filmmakers share?

Here's some examples:

- both started out making low-budget horror films in the 1980s(The Evil Dead, Bad Taste, Braindead)

- both directed a blockbuster trilogy starting in the early 2000s(Spider-Man and The Lord of the Rings)

- both made fantasy prequels around the early 2010s(The Hobbit and Oz the Great and Powerful)

- both made critically-acclaimed dramas in the 1990s(Heavenly Creatures, A Simple Plan)

- both never had professional training prior to directing but made shorts at early ages

Who do you think is the better filmmaker and why?

And please don't say anything dumb like "Jackson's better because at least he didn't make Emo Peter" or "Raimi's better because of Bruce *beep* Campbell".

I want legit reasons and not just fanboy rage.

Love them both, although Peter Jackson has a much better success ratio.

I guess it's because of Lord Of The Rings, but I say Peter Jackson.

The truth of the matter is that Jackson changed the way we make movies Lord of the Rings while Raimi hasn't had a good film since Army of Darkness.

Since Army of Darkness?

What don't you like about his Spiderman movies? Feel free to disagree, but I think that the first 2 in that trilogy are classics! Even Spiderman 3 had some great moments.

reply

I repeat, not a single good movie since Army of Darkness.

spider man trilogy sucks !

And Raimi revolutionised the horror genre and also started the age of modern superheroes...

Jackson's only good films are the LOTR movies. The Hobbit sucked and was made only to evolve his giant ego.

Not made a good film since AOD? What about Spiderman 1 and 2? Drag me to hell? Even Oz the Great and Powerful was better than The Hobbit.
