BRIDGE movie between HOBBIT and LOTR

Tolkien purists will hate that post (as well as Hobbit hater fans), but a bridge movie that happens in the 60 years between Hobbit and LOTR is 1) perfectly feasible, 2) great and 3) more realistic than the Silmarillion.

It can easily happen in 4-5 years from now, say 2020.

Peter Jackson has plenty of threads to work with :
- Moria being inhabited by dwarves with Balin as it's lord (we saw Moria occupied by orcs in Hobbit and by goblins in the Lotr, but we never saw a beautiful Moria)
- Legolas finds Aragorn
- Aragorn in Rivendell
- Aragorn with Arwen
- Aragorn chasing Gollum
- Gandalf meeting Aragorn and chasing Gollum
- Saruman becoming evil (CG for Sir Christopher Lee, 1 or 2 scenes would be enough)
- Bilbo adopting Frodo
- Etc. etc. etc...

Add Philippa and Fran to the writing team, and you'll get a great bridge movie.

I wouldn't mind PJ carrying on the Middle Earth films. People may disagree with me. Then again, the Shadow of Mordor video game is an interesting story between Hobbit and LOTR.

I don't disagree, maitre, but I think you need more to make a successful film than simply filling in a list of events, unconnected other than the fact that they're all in Middle Earth and they all involve one or more of the characters of the other films. That doesn't make for a cohesive story.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

If Shadow of Mordor was never made that could have been a good film IMO.

They will have to sort out the legal issues first. It's not a given that Warner Brothers (or the owner of the rights, the Saul Zaentz Co.) will retain the movie rights to LOTR and The Hobbit (together with the appendices). If they don't, there will be no films based on these works until the copyrights expire and go into the public domain.

It will be a couple of years at least before the matter is settled (it's before the courts at the moment but not in the final stages).

I always liked the idea of a "bridge" film but it would be a challenge to put one together that was both compelling and had narrative coherence.

Another thing is I don't think it could be just ONE film. I think the depth of the LOTR - world is too deep and anyone looking to introduce characters, set up conflict, set up ensuing action and resolution would be hard pressed to make that into one single movie that has a satisfying ending that goes from The Hobbit to the LOTR gracefully.
