I wish he'd do a Victorian England version of War of the Worlds

An accurate take on HG Wells story. I've never heard of the Mortal Engines books until today but i read it's a steampunk London which is similar. Wells story has never been turned into a good film.

That would be the version of Wars of the Worlds I would love to see.

I bet it's the version most Wells fans would love to see plus it would be unique and not just another aliens invade America thing. there are rumours that ITV are going to be doing a version but whether that will happen only time will tell.

Yes I agree. I'd love to see at least someone do a decent Victorian steampunk version.

There was another version made and released around the same time as the Spielberg/Cruise effort that tried to be faithful to Wells' novel, but it was incredibly amateurish -- in script, acting and especially the visual effects. It pretty much disappeared without trace.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

The Spielberg War of the Worlds film made nearly $600 million dollars worldwide. I'd hardly call that "disappearing without a trace." It was uneven and did have a poor script, but I wouldn't call it amateurish.

No mate, you misunderstood. I was talking about the other version, the one set in Victorian England, that came out at the same time.

The Spielberg version was amateurish only in its "change-for-change's-sake" approach to the story.

Whoops, sorry! I didn't even realize there was another version of the film made at the same time. So in that case, yes it must have disappeared without a trace lol.

(The Musical version) by Jeff Wayne that was made in the 1970s now this would be the one to make, it has already been done as a stage production with Liam Neeson as the one of the lead actors, and yes this version is set in the correct time period of Victorian England. As a young school boy a quite a few years ago this scared me more than any Friday the 13th part whatever as the music and story complimented each other perfectly.
Here's hoping that Sir Peter and his incredibly talented friends from Weta in Wellington can bring this to fruition.

He promised that film back in 2004 when that Spielberg effort came out but there's been nothing since. i'd like to see both done. A dead on book accurate take and Waynes version ......though I'm not sure all of the songs on it stand up that well now.
