Great for the most part, but makes some shoddy mistakes

Can't remember any bad cgi snow in the Hobbit but the V Rex fight was cartoonish and ott plus the dino stampede.

Spielberg might have done those scenes better but i'm not so sure. One film with some real bad stuff was his rubbish version of War of the Worlds [especially the big plot holes of how those tripods got buried] so Spielberg's done some shat too.

Spielberg's not immune to "shoddy" mistakes either, and often has his own foibles. I am rarely able to watch a Spielberg flick for the number of times he sacrifices character, plot, or physical world continuity for the sake of his "cool!" moments. They don't win me over, they shanghai me into indulging him for the sake of trying to stay "in" the movie. Even as it's happening, I resent it.

Myself, I loved the V-Rex fight. It was audacious, and deep into geekdom in all the right ways. The first time I saw this film, I laughed out loud for the sheer delight of Jackson clearly saying, "Cop this!" all over the massive screen.

The bronto stmpede, on the other hand ... I know everyone complains about it, but it really rattled my trust (if that's not too big a word) in Jackson as a film-maker. How the hell could he let that past the gates?! Even if the story he told is to be believed, that they simply ran out of time to complete the sequence in terms of rendering and compositing before the film's premiere, I can't comprehend why he wouldn't have gone back and fixed it before the Extended cut was released, and certainly before this "Ultimate" edition. Now that, I'll agree, is "shoddy".
