I remember him showing up on Letterman years ago in some huge, white, quilted coat. Told some story about how he'd pursued some actress for years, only to get with her one day in a hotel. As a souvenir he grabbed the quilt off their bed and had it tailored as an overcoat!

He refused to tell Letterman who the actress was, I think she was married at the time.

I remember him on Letterman telling a story how he was such a bad driver that he hit and knocked over a double decker bus in England. I also remember a story he told of being drunk and not able to drive a car and almost passing out in the car at a red light that turned green and the driver in back of him came up to him and asked "What bloody shade of green are you waiting for that light to change to". His stories were always hilarious and pretty much always about getting piss drunk. He told another story where he was doing theater and was so drunk he fell and slid into some ladies lap.

I believe the "Theater Stories" skits from Saturday Night Live with Mike Meyers, Dana Carvey, and Phil Hartman were somewhat based on Richard Harris theater stories.

I think I remember the Peter O'Toole story he told on Letterman. Didn't they lower their suitcases out a window and then exit the hotel in bathing suits, pretending they were going swimming?

I loved him on Carson too, he was a great story teller and my favorite talk show guest in the seventies. I loved his drinking stories with Peter O'Toole and Richard Burton.

It's simply fantastic to listen to his stories, aswell as O'Tooles. They are both great! I really like Richard Harris and the way the is restless in the chair telling David Letterman about all kinds of stuff. I've not seen many of his movies, but i have This Sporting Life on Dvd, and i think it's a good movie. Very nice acting, perhaps inspired by Marlon Brando. I don't really know what to say about Richard Harris other than he strikes me as a remarkable man.
