Is it true that he lived in a hotel?
My mum said once that Richard Harris (in his later years) lived in a hotel. Is this true?

shareYep!! It's true. He lived until his death in October 2002 at the Savoy Hotel in London.
shareWell the Savoy is now closed for refurbishment I bet they reopen with a Richard Harris suite.
A room at the Savoy was offered for sale in by of London's high end real estate agencies (fairly certain it was Knight Frank). The price was £850,000.00, this was shortly after RH's death so I always assumed it was the same room. You could view the room during the action of the Savoy's furniture and fittings (this was many years later), again I wonder if the Savoy purchased it back from RH's estate. Could be a different room that was privately sold, I just remember the advert for Savoy suite and thought it connected.
If you ever end up in that area go to the Coal Hole pub, nearly next door RH used to drink there.
A better story is how he got his island, via some bet.
Hey this is a really interesting post :-) My dad met Richard years and years back in pub he used to frequent in London. Well my dad tells me now that Harris was a great drinker back then and great company. Ironically they were not friends but became friendly but they did meet again years afterwards and my older brother was in a pub with my dad in north west London and they saw Richard Harris again!!
My dad told him about occasionally seeing him in the pub they used to go 20 years before and RH remembered my dad.
My mum's side of the family are from Limerick like RH and my dad teased RH about the county (my dad's side are from Kilkenny).
Anyway yeah I read that Harris lived in the hotel for last few years of his life and I had done work in that hotel (one period over xmas 1992 putting up xmas trees for a company I worked for at the time after leaving school).
Also another brother of mine met and had a drink with Peter O'Toole twice in the 90's.
While the chief puts sunshine on Leith I'll thank him for his work & your birth & my birth

His first wife Elizabeth used to run the Savoy which I presume is how he ended up there whilst he was in London. When he was being taken to hospital on a stretcher just days before he died he shouted, "It was the food" as he was being carried through the hotel lobby. Aa a parting quip it's a line worthy of Mr Wilde. A major, major talent sadly missed
sharehis final words are disputed according to the NHS he never regained consiousness after the door was forced in
