She probably didn't want any silhouettes on her clothes. Elvis Presley didn't wear underwear either actually.

Yes, that's why they censored him on the waist down on his 3rd appearance on Ed Sullivan show. For the jumpsuits however he had to wear a special dancer's underwear for that. But before that (except for the military when he had to strip down) and outside of it, he wore none. You can see him actually in the 60s when pants got tighter.
