Celeste Boyle (Mystic River) is a flop(per) - anyone agrees

Celeste Boyle is a type of person I'd beat up.....and played by an actress I'm not so really fond of but people say I must see Pollock if I want to try to make my opinion of Marcia Gay Harden any better !!!

With 4 superB actors (Penn/Bacon/Fishburne/Robbins.... 4 of the greatest actors in the world.. heall-jeah) I really like Mystic River and have seen it numerous times (and still counting) would've wanted someone else in her role...just this particular one because Celeste is on my nerves and still is and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that

Marcia Gay Harden as Celeste Boyle ...bad choice - but there isn't much ado about that now...is there !!!!!!

I'm sorry, Marcia gives the best performance in that otherwise overacted film.

....Somewhere in that previous negative comment of mine I failed to mention that Harden is not a bad actress (in other words I wasn't speaking clear enough).... I just find her annoying and Celeste Boyle is annoying - but her performance was to me OK in otherwise overacted film as you describe it but the (4) male actors are my favorite....wonder how Eastwood got all 4 of them in one particular movie !!

It's a while since I've seen the film but I seem to remember her inability to act or connect with her husband and her inability to trust him kind of carved her out as a pretty unsympathetic character, if the character annoyed you it probably means she did a good job, it wasn't a likeable woman she played.

I have to agree. I think she was supposed to play a very disconnected character that would not be likable. She could not really trust her husband's character after she finds out what he has done. Tim Robbin's past has made it even harder for her character to be close, I think he had always been more closed off.

I think she did an amazing job in an amazing film.

The character is like that in the book. It's not her personally.
