Any word On Recent Movies?
Has Miss Christie retired?....
shareNo word. She hasn't made any announcements, but then it's doubtful she would. Seems like it's anybody's guess.
shareUnfortunately not! I still see she could work greatly, however today making a movie of the same quality and at the parameters she's always sought could be very tiring and most of all, rare thing to find. I am always surprised why the UK do not employ her more, their Cinema is much more suitable to Julie these days. She's always made her best work in the US or US generated productions, again sadly there aren't many movies today that could appeal to her, i believe. It would take one special 'romantic' project, or a new director of fame finally thinking to use her in a great part like when Marc Forster cast her as the antagonist in the delightful "Finding Neverland". Who knows? We are certainly waiting... lol
shareI saw video of her recently reciting poetry at the Hay Festival, and it was wonderful listening to that marvelous voice and obvious that her acting skills are still quite intact. I suppose it is a matter of her either not finding adequate material to appear in or just not wanting to bother with the business of movie making any more. Its a shame for us moviegoers, though!
shareI'm going to go with the latter - just not wanting to bother with the business.
She's always expressed great disdain for the business of moviemaking, its insecurity and emphasis on superficiality and commodification. I believe that she is truly enjoying her life away from the madding crowd. There are so many roles that I see her contemporaries (Helen Mirren, Judi Dench, Charlotte Rampling, Vanessa Redgrave) taking, that I can't help feeling that she might have been first choice and declined for simple lack of desire and ambition. Whatever the case, we'll always have Lara (and Diana, and Mrs. Miller and etc. etc,)
