This writer considers Bela Lugosi's performance as Count Dracula in
Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein(1948)to be his best performance as the
Prince Of Darkness.If you have never seen this film then watch it because it's
considered a classic...and my most favorite film of all time.
I consider Lugosi's performance as Ygor in Son Of Frankenstein(1939)to be his best performance of all time.

Maybe we don't agree on John Carradine's performance as Dracula but we do agree
about Lugosi's first performance as Dracula in Universal's 1931 film.
How do you feel about Horror Of Dracula(1958)starring Peter Cushing as
Dr. Van Helsing and Christopher Lee's first performance as Count Dracula?
This writer feels entirely that is the best version of the Dracula story.

John Carradine was excellent as Dracula, as he was a very, very good actor. I don't say he was better than Lugosi but unlike Lugosi, Carradine spoke perfect English hence was less phonetic.
However, one performance isn't better than the other, they're just different, as opposed to when you compare Boris Karloff to his successor, Glenn Strange. Karloff was way better because Glenn Strange didn't really do anything but the trademark lumbering walk with the role of the Frankenstein Monster.

Alot of great actors have played Count Dracula.Lugosi,Lee,Carradine and Duncan Regehr(Count Dracula in the film -The Monster Squad).
Boris Karloff far and away gives the performance that defines Frankenstein's
Monster in the ultimate version of the film version of Frankenstein(1931).
Glenn Strange was an impressive Frankenstein's Monster in 2 of the 3 films he played the Monster in(mainly Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein-1948 &
House Of Frankenstein-1944).Also Tom Noonan gives a touching performance as a
the Monster in The Monster Squad.
In Terror Of Frankenstein,Per Oscarsson plays the Monster in performance that
was very close to how Mary Shelley had intended him to be according to The Monster in Shelley's original book.
It's very obvious Boris Karloff will be forever identified as the Greatest
portrayer of the character and he had no dialogue...YET HE SPOKE VOLUMES!
Lugosi is not in the version of Dracula(1931)that is the best version of Bram
Stoker's novel...Christopher Lee is in that version-Horror Of Dracula(1958)
yet Lugosi is the ultimate version of Count Dracula.
So there are numerous contradictions on who is a Great Dracula or who is a
Great Frankenstein's Monster.It ultimately is decided by everyone's own
tastes.
