Every film this guy has been in in the last 2 or 3 years has bombed at the box office, with the exception of course of GotG, which he was uncredited and only did voice work. He's a phenomenal actor and it's sad to me that he can't catch a break with a huge blockbuster. I was hoping Sin City would be the one, but I saw it, it was terrible, and it flopped. Does he need a new agent? I think so.

He was in "Men in Black," which was a huge hit. "Gangster Squad" would have been one, too, but Sean Penn didn't show up to act, so the movie fell flat. Brolin likes to play unique roles in smaller films, though...so I am really not surprised at the box office numbers.

I wonder why people think he comes across as arrogant? He seems like one of the least arrogant actors in Hollywood and always comes across so sweet. :(

I believe the problem with him is he's not a great leading man. His leading man efforts have fallen flat because he lacks the charisma/it factor tom carry a film. He's a phenomenal supporting actor as evidenced by No Country for Old Men, MIB 3, Milk, American Gangster and Inherent Vice. Not so good when you have to rely on him to carry a film by himself.

I never have seen "Gamgster Squad." I was looking forward to it early on, but didn't it also turn into a mess and flop because of the delayed release and too many re-shoots due to the Aurora shooting? It prbably would have been a totally different film. Although yeah, if Penn phoned it in, that right there is a problem.

Well, NCfOM was years ago, so the OP is talking about recent years. MiB3 was just a couple of years before this thread, yeah, but maybe they consider it a flop for its metascore...? I don't know. There have been some misses in his career lately, but that can turn around.
