Carol or Truth?

Which is she more likely to be nominated for Best Actress for?

Which is the stronger performance.

Or is it possible she could be nominated in leading for Carol and supporting for Truth.

reply

Double nomination is almost certainly out of the question at this point. Unfortunately.

It's the same situation like 2008 with Kate Winslet. Most of the critics say that her role in Truth is "showier" and more Academy friendly than her praised subtle work in Carol. But, on the other hand, Carol is much more likely to be nominated for Best Picture and other important categories. It has 96% on RT (8.9 average rating), 98 score on Metacritic and Harvey Weinstein is behind the film.

Right now, my money is on Carol.

My brain thinks she will be nominated for Carol, but my heart wants it to be Truth since it is such a different role.

reply

Difficult to say which is the stronger performance because I have seen neither. I wouldn't be surprised if she were to be nominated for both roles.

Go to bed Frank or this is going to get ugly .

Carol will get more nominations, I believe, and it will take Cate with it.

But it would be great to be nominated for Truth because it is, like many say, her movie, she is the leading, not female leading, leading period. All others are supporting.

reply

I hoped she would go leading in carol and supporting in truth or opposite so that she can receive two nominations just like she did some years ago!!

reply

but Rooney plays the lead role in Carol, right? It must be a reason since she won best female at Cannes.

reply

Cannes dont have a supporting actress category, and they dont really care about these things. Didnt Moore win for Maps to the Stars while it was obvious it was an ensemble piece?

In the book I thought Carols part was supporting but I believe the screenplay took a different turn. And while Rooney has more screentime, Cates part is "juicier", a marriage, a child, a custody fight, a detective following her. And dont forget, she is the object of desire and she is the title of the film. She has more "gravitas" than Rooney.

The one that comes in mind is Marlon Brando in The Godfather. Much less screentime than Pacino, but still nominated - and won - for leading.

Harvey Weinstein confirmed that cate is going leading and Rooney supporting
