Lone Survivor!?!?!?

I don't know if anyone else has any info on the subject but i read in the TotalFilm.com that Peter Berg has bought the rights to the book Lone Survivor that just came out by Marcus Luttrell. It is the Story of the ambush and death of the Navy Seal Team 10. Marcus was the only one to survive. I just read the book and it is very heart breaking. If anyone know anymore please let me know.

Yeah, I heard that too. I'm stoked on this movie. Right after I read the book, I thought this would make an excellent movie. But only if the movie honors the men who died and does their bravery justice. I hope it doesn't stray too far from the facts. I know with Black Hawk Down, there were so many characters that they had to combine some and change aspects of setting and time, but it really shouldn't be much of a challenge to make this film as realistic and factually correct as possible.

Dammit! It seesm like he is doing Dune instead. What a shame. He would have made a great Lone Survivor.

Why do you say that? Berg has only announced that Dune is a future project of his; without a script even written yet, that film is still a long way off. I do think it's strange that there's been no recent developments on Lone Survivor though, but I'm sure that Universal isn't going to just throw away the $2 million they paid for the rights to the book. Let's hope they get this thing rolling before the end of the year.

Well, since movies dealing with the war on terror have been bombing, it's no wonder you hear more about Dune than Lone Survivor.

reply

Yes, but Lone Survivor is very different from Lions For Lambs, In The Valley Of Elah to name a few. I think Lone Survior could become a big hit like Black Hawk Down became a few years ago.

What worries me is that Peter Berg does not talk about Lone Survivor anymore to my knowledge, but he does talk quite a bit about Dune so he seems busy working on that. I loved The Kingdom and think this guy is very talented.

Also, look for Paul Greengrass/Matt Damon Green Zone movie to do well and be very good.

Anyway if Lone Survivor does becoeme a movie some day, I hope it's with a good director like Peter Berg behind the helm.

Green Zone will probably make as much as United 93, there still isn't a film out
there that will truly break the mold like Apocalypse Now, Platoon and The Deer Hunter did.

And besides, we're still living in the "too soon" time now.

I think Berg will still do Lone Survivor at some point in his career, but I also think he'll need Dune to be a gigantic success if he wants that made.

Besides i'm more excited about him doing Dune, but that's me. The next Lord of the Rings is upon us soon.

What he won't do is Bran Mak Morn since the rights have been given up, and neither will be the Tom Cruise spy project which has been handed down to Philip Noyce instead.

Dammit! No news on this one. Hopefully it will still make it to the screen.
