The advancement in light on film sets is completely different, I've met her in person and I was very surprised just how dark her skin is.
If you met her in person, you can tell she has had nothing done, as you seem to be implying.
I get what you're saying. I'm a little baffled as to how some of these people were surprised to find out that she's black. Beals is most known for Flashdance, and she clearly looked like she had ripe black blood then. Looked the same way in the early nineties as well.
It's just recently that she started to look white. I was a little shocked when I saw some of her pics.

I don't know nothin', but i guess:
In earlier years she probably did some tanning/staying in the sun.
But in order to keep skin perfect, you just can't do too much tanning. One has to protect the skin in order to delay skinageing as good/long as possible.
