More Historical Action Dramas Please!

I found "Flesh and Blood" (1985) to be disappointing and I blame Verhoeven's self-admitted mistake of not initially story-boarding the movies.

But I loved "Black Book" and I would love to see his screenplay set during the Crusades (1095-1291) finally produced.

And wouldn't Verhoeven directing a movie set during the Thirty Years' War (1618-48) be awesome?

Don't get me wrong. I loved the "The Last Valley" (1971) but there is more than enough room for one flick set during that conflict.

A sword-and-sandal epic, like "Ben-Hur" (1959) or "Gladiator" (2000), would be great too.
