The brief period of history when he was a Hollywood, dramatic actor

Remember that? He was a breakout star with the indy hit Swingers and all of a sudden he was being cast as the lead in big budget, dramatic, studio films i.e. Jurassic park 2, Return to Paradise, Psycho. Then he just regressed to toilet humor comedy rolls. A funny 'almost could have been' period in hollywood. I kindof respect him for it choosing comedy, if the man actually prefers comedy.

I don't always post on IMDB.com, but when I do I make sure I'm hammered.

He was supposed to star in The Risk Agent based on a really cool book about a guy trying to foil a kidnapping in Shanghai. I was really excited, because its an action packed book, lots of chases and fights, solid story and characters too, and him as the lead is the opposite of most Hollywood action stars usual strong but silent type, but it seems to have fallen into development hell. Too bad.

Return to Paradise was a real good movie, and he does a real good job in it. I also liked him in villain roles like Clay Pigerons and Domestic Disturbance. From Old School on everything has been a comedy, with mixed results. Even in films that aren't Frat Pack comedies, he's cast as comic relief(Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Be Cool). I think that stretch has wrecked his chances of going back to any other genre. I often tell people, "Vince Vaughn was a good dramatic ator and villain before he decided to become a clown." That's really all he is now.

Also very good in A Cool Dry Place and gorgeous as well. He had the chops to be a dramatic actor. He was so good in Return to Paradise, Clay Pigeons. The Psycho remake wasn't his fault, but it seems like after that he never wanted to do drama again. I think he is good in comedy too, but I get tired of the same schtick in most of his films. It was charming and funny in Old School, and even Dodgeball. Borderline in Wedding Crashers and then just tired.

I will say though that I thought he was very good in The Internship and Also The Delivery Man. Both movies didn't do well with critics, but we enjoyed them. And there were several serious scenes in both of these movies where you could see that Vince still had it in him. I would love to see a director really push in in drama again, but I fear, like his looks, that is all behind him now.

He was such a handsome guy back in the day too, and he just let that all go. He doesn't have to look like he is 25 again, but it would be nice if he didn't look like he was going to drop dead from heart disease at any minute. He is a guy with so much potential and talent.

How does he keep getting work!?
He's not at all funny in any of his comedies and just comes across as arrogant, obnoxious and angry.
Also, how can he play love interests to smart/attractive/fit-looking women, like Jennifer Aniston, when he looks half dead with eyes like a couple of sheep fannies and his characters are always self-obsessed misogynists?
Dreadful actor and a fat horrible pig. He's even less believable than Seth Rogan in his similar roles. LOL - IRL if these characters even had a woman she'd be hideous and they'd still be

Well, he's been cast as one of the leads in True Detective which I think should be really interesting. I think he showed talent in his early roles as a dramatic actor.

Actually - though it sounds kind of ridiculous - I saw a rerun of Doogie Howser a while ago in which he had a guest role. I didn't even recognise him straight away because he was so young - but it soon hit me who it was. He played this young basketballer who had just lost both his legs in some accident and seriously, he was terrific. Quite surprisingly excellent in a very sub par show.

I liked his comedies for about five minutes but it got tired pretty fast. I think he's a really funny guy and has great timing - but I think he was wasted in stuff like Dodgeball. He was fantastic in Clay Pigeons - damn I love that movie - it's so dark and creepy but so blackly hilarious. And yes, he was very gorgeous in it too.

There's a certain intensity to his acting that I like and I really think he could make a big comeback as a dramatic actor if he pulls off his role in True Detective. Hey, look what it did for Matt McConaughey.
