Fickle Fans

I absolutely adore Kathleen Turner. She is not only one of my favourite actresses, but people. I am 13 years old and became a fan of her around six months ago, and to me it doesn't matter what Miss Turner looks like. She still has an incredible talent, wonderful screen presence, and is still beautiful.

But sadly, due to her rheumatoid arthritis she changed in the late 1990's. Yes, she was an undeniably gorgeous and sexy woman in the 80's, but now she has changed and aged her fans from her early days have deserted her, complaining about her appearance and moaning how she has changed. This sickens me. She has changed in appearance due to her agonising illness, but she still has her fabulous talent and these fickle fans that deserted her need to show some respect towards her and grow up.

I couldn't have said it any better myself. What's funny is that people who say such rotten things about people as you mentioned of her fickle fans will age too, they may get a debilitating disease and could even become an alcoholic. Compassion for anyone seems to be a lost feeling these days sadly.

I agree with both of you. I have loved Kathleen since the 80s and I still do. I've seen nearly every play she's done and I already have tickets for her next Broadway play- "High".

I feel so bad for her & I am aghast at the many posters here. Sure she has aged & sure, people can age gracefully, ie. youthfully. But what so many here overlook & intentionally disregard is that her changing looks was primarily due to her illness. How many of us can boast of aging gracefully if we ourselves were under the same conditions as her? When has it become cool to become cruel to someone due to their illness? How exactly was she supposed to counter or prevent her changing looks? People act as if this was a matter of 'losing weight' or discipline, she is sick & her medications have side effects. I pray that the people here who are harshest on her, taunting her looks, don't find themselves in the same predicament surrounded by mocking & cruel people.

You show the wisdom and compassion of someone twice your age. I commend you--and I love Kathleen too!:)

You seem to be under the impression that this is a fan site.

I am under the impression that this is a website in which, among other things, a person can share their feelings, thoughts or opinions on a movie star or film. What exactly is your point?

reply

There's no need to be defensive.

I grew up watching Kathleen Turner and have always loved her films. When I checked her page a few years ago I was curious because I hadn't seen her in anything in a long while and when I saw a photo of what she looked like I was shocked but right away I knew something had to be wrong with her. The shape of your face doesn't change that way overnight. Then I learned of her disease and I have to say I respect her very much for dealing with it as best as she was able to. A lot of shallow and superficial actresses would rather go under the knife and do everything in their power to regain their former glory or hide away under their covers afraid to step foot outside. But not Kathleen, she's a fighter and wants to live her life. Those that want to trash her now, go ahead, she's an easy target. But I will say this, name 1 sex symbol today that has the body, charisma, voice, authenticity and overall talent that Kathleen had in the 80s? Nobody comes close in my opinion and nobody can take that away. She'll always have talent to fall back on. What do the starlets of today have over Kathleen? Nothing.
