She should have been a huge star.
She retired for a few years in 1995 to become a mother and stay at home with her kids. But for a time in the 80's she was damn good actress. She had the looks and talent to be star, but reading with interviews or quotes from her, I don't think she was ever that driven to want to be a star.
Her debut at 20 was in Alan Parker's Fame (1980). She had her first major role in Matt Dillon film called Tex in 1982. Her first starring role was in horror from the same year One Dark Night. But her breakthrough was in Psycho II (1983), which she had a great role in. Then followed the fantastic The Big Chill (1983) in which she probably stole the film. She then did Agnes in God (1985) with a wonderful performance alongside Jane Fonda. Probably her best performance as young nun. She did a film called Off Beat (1986), which is a lot better then 5.0 it has on IMDB. Have a soft spot for that film and Meg is adorable in it. Although she did miss out on a big part in Oscar winning film Amadeus at the time, cause of a leg injury. She would have been a bright spot on her C.V.
She did get to work with Milos Forman on Valmont (1989), which is a good film. She then starred in Jack Nicholson Directed follow up of Chinatown called The Two Jakes (1990). Her last two films were Body Snatchers (1993) and Sleep with Me (1994) neither are great. Although she did return to acting to star in the very good TV show Bomb Girls.
But she's one of those talents that you just think probably if she had that extra push in her could have been a big star. But overall she didn't have a bad career.
