Is Caroline Thompson her sister?

I saw screenwriter Caroline Thompson on AMC talking about Edward Scissorhands, and thought she looked EXACTLY like Lea Thompson, but with much darker hair. If they are sisters, it would suggest where CAROLINE IN THE CITY came from.
