I think his voice in Magnum was an acting choice and not his natural voice. It could have been his choice or the Director's.
Magnum was supposed to be part comedy and his whiny voice was supposed to be funny. At least that's how I took it.

high voice ? I am watching the Jesse Stone movies.He is very good in this series.
Is your problem with him do to his age ?
