Globes Usually gives 30 seconds for speeches. Actors sometimes go 10 seconds further but usually they shut their mic and cue music before the 60 seconds mark. I just re-watched and timed Sir Ridley Scott's speech. It was 162 seconds long.
I don't mind long speeches if they're funny or have a cause, and I do like Scott's movies, but most of what he was saying is praising the film, himself, and their box office results, which made the speech too boring and felt like 10 minutes speech.

I liked his speech.

It is about staying hungry and raising the bar.

He was talking to the whole industry.

The funny thing is, he probably had a deja-vu from getting a Honorary doctorate

by the Royal College a few months back: There he had all the time in the world for a speech.

He probably forgot, that he only had 30 sec. 

But still a good speech.

Don't worry, it was a sympathy nomination, he's not going to last the year and it was to give him some hope (Like his Golden Globes win was).You're an a hole. If there's any justice, you won't last the year. 

To be honest The Martian should've been nominated as in the best drama category not comedy. Knowing it has no chances in the drama category they switched it to comedy to make it win, which is unfair for the other comedy movies. It's like nominating Goodfellas for comedy because Joe Pesci cracked out some jokes in that movie.
