How many opportunities does the Academy think they're going to get?

Ridley Scott is now 78. David Bowie and Alan Rickman, legends who sadly died this week, were 69 and both looked as fit as a fiddle (I can personally testify in the latter case because I briefly met Alan Rickman last April). I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt that Scott has that many movies left, as ambitious as his current schedule may be.

So why has the Academy, yet again, snubbed the opportunity to honour one of the most visionary and significant directors of the last forty years?!? Especially in a year in which his The Martian grossed an incredible amount of money at the domestic and global box-office, being one of the few top ten hits in recent years to not be a sequel, prequel, or comic-book/young adult adaptation, and received rapturous reviews.

reply

Sir Ridley Scott is going to be winning Best Picture Oscar for THE MARTIAN because he is the producer.

After that, Sir Ridley could win Oscars with THE CARTEL or/and THE PRISONER.

I'm excited for ALIEN: COVENANT(3D) too.

SIR RIDLEY SCOTT, MICHAEL BAY, LUC BESSON, DC & WB MOVIES, EMMA WATSON, KRISTEN STEWART, etc

reply

I agree with Harvey.

They should at least give him an Honorary Academy Award next year.

reply

I just hope he lives long enough to make The Cartel, The Prisoner and Alien: Covenant.

And winning a producer Oscar is not the same as winning an Oscar for Best Director.

reply

Clint Eastwood is 85-86 and he still is directing movies.

Sir Ridley Scott is like Clint Eastwood.

So, Sir Ridley Scott has AT LEAST 8 YEARS MORE Directing Movies.

Sir Ridley Scott works VERY FAST. So, in the next 8 years, he could direct 6 huge movies like:

ALIEN: COVENANT(3D), THE CARTEL, THE PRISONER(3D) and 3 huge movies more. Sir Ridley wants to direct a Huge Western in 3D Before He Retires.

SIR RIDLEY SCOTT, MICHAEL BAY, LUC BESSON, DC & WB MOVIES, EMMA WATSON, KRISTEN STEWART, etc

reply

I hope I'm wrong. It's definitely possible. But the Academy had the perfect opportunity and they blew it. 

reply

I agree with you.

But Oscars ALWAYS HATES Sci-Fis.

Sir Ridley Scott could win Oscars with Epics(GLADIATOR), War movies(BLACK HAWK DOWN) or Gangster Dramas like his future THE CARTEL.
