A Decent Snape

While I am madly in love with Alan Rickman, do believe Tim would have made a very good Severus Snape for the Harry Potter films. Just the idea that he was considered for the role makes me love him that much more.

What does any one else have to say? Would he have been better? Worse? How do you think he would have been as Snape?

I adore Alan Rickman, but always thought he was a little old for the part of Snape. I think Tim Roth would have made a fantastic Snape (mostly because he'd make a fantastic anything! lol), and he's much closer to the right age (or the age I pictured, at least), so I might have preferred him in the part. They're both awesome actors, though.

Although, now that I think about it, I'm not sure I would have been comfortable with Snape being so hot! That would have meant a looooot of cognitive dissonance for me. And it certainly wouldn't do for Snape to be sexier than Lockhart, would it? hahaha :-)

ETA: I'm now feeling this urge to re-read the books and use Roth as my "mental actor" for Snape. Interesting...

I only recently found out that he was considered, and while I absolutely love Alan Rickman as Snape, I think Tim Roth woud have been also great in that role. I find myself unable to pick sides :)

I feel at this point a majority of us are biased because we've been used to Alan for all this time but I agree to an extent on the age thing. Severus was only 38 when he was murdered which Alan Rickman was a could few decades older. Not to say older actors cant play younger characters, it happens all the time.

Of course, Alan was Rowling's hand picked choice for Severus so I guess what she says goes, right!
