His role in 'Rob Roy'

I'm suprised I haven't found a thread(or whatever you call them) on this board dedicated to this film and the disgusting character he played. This was the movie that made me realize what a great actor T.R. is...this has got to be his greatest role besides Mr.Orange in "Reservoir Dogs"(if that film deserved any oscar, Tim should've been the one to get it). I thought his potrayal of Archibald Cunningham made him one of the most repulsive, but still at times understandable and even sympathetic, and very complex, villains in film history...

He was amazing in Rob Roy!

Is it completely wrong of me that I always root for him at the end? (Warning: SPOILERS!) That final scene, when Rob Roy is walking back to his family and they have that happy reunion, really gripes me. It's not fair! Archie won that fight hands down. I yell at the screen every time I watch it.

T.R. is a wonderful actor. If only Kevin Spacey wasn't in The Usual Suspects, he would have won for R.R. He played such a discipable character. I had to replay his character's death twice just for the amusement to watch him die.

Kevin Spacey is an amazing actor and The Usual Suspects is the better film, but it's the reveal that makes it so memorable. Tim Roth really made my flesh crawl in Rob Roy and I cheered when he died - I'm honestly not sure which of these two men would have got my vote if I had been an Academy member.

I haven't seen a lot of Roth's work (yet) but in this he's completely unlike any other character I've seen so far. If I hadn't been watching *for* him, I might not even have realised it *was* him - he looks, walks and talks so differently from his usual swaggering Cockney wideboy (or variations of) that I'm sure a lot of viewers wouldn't be able to recognise him. Which, for an actor, is both good and bad!

I think somebody's had tee many martoonies!

I agree, Archie won that fight. You just have to want him to win when he takes that damn wig off and looks like he's fixing to kick ass, oh man....awesome, totally freaken awesome! I love to see his little self and big ole Liam Neeson standing next to each other, esp him in his little fancy outfit. hilarious and sexy

I felt that Roth really got gypped that year on the Oscars.

Roth played a dastardly villain in Rob Roy.

My hubby and I cheered when his character died at the end!
