Just A Wonderful Actor

Alan Rickman was a wonderful actor and the first time I first noticed him in film was in Die Hard in 1988, he was the epitomy of a villain and he carried this forward with films like Quigley Down Under in 1990 and Robin Hood in 1991.

He was never out of work and just like a lot of his contemporaries, he always acted but it his role of Severus Snape in the Harry Pottery movies which was just mesmerising and outstanding.

God bless you Alan, you certainly were a true genius of an actor - Rest in Peace.

I never thought he deserved a reputation as a great or major actor at all, really. Sure, he had certain qualities, something you might call presence or charisma, a distinctive voice, and he made a memorable villain, but those qualities don't make him a truly great actor. He had no range, his performances being always very similar no matter what the role. And he had no vocal range either, really, and was in that sense lucky to be naturally endowed with a voice many people found attractive and dramatic. But he sounds exactly the same in almost everything, from Harry Potter, Robin Hood, to Sense and Sensibility. Exact same intonation. Kind of like Tim Curry, only somehow Tim Curry doesn't have the kind of respect Rickman had. EDIT: Actually I take that back; Curry is actually more capable.
