Ah, I'm so glad you recommended a bunch of movies I haven't seen yet! I was afraid people would only recommend things I had already seen and I'd feel like I had nothing to look forward to... Thanks, this gives me a lot to work on.
My own recommendations (and seconding of AlienHunter's recommendations)(well, actually this is just my opinions on the Giovanni movies I've seen, too few considering):
Heaven and The Gift: my two favourite performances by Giovanni thus far, both excellent movies (as far as I'm concerned) and both co-starring the wonderful Cate Blanchett. Giovanni and Cate work extremely well together(but if you ask me, Giovanni outshines her in both, not an easy thing to do but exactly why he's so impressive).
Saving Private Ryan: war movies don't really do it for me but I can acknowledge that this one is spectacularly made, and Giovanni is again superb. Most people love it, and for good reason.
Gone in 60 Seconds cops a lot of flak, but it really is a hell of a lot of fun, well worth the viewing even if Giovanni is all you watch it for. Likewise, people pick on Avatar oh so much, but I enjoyed it and even though Giovanni doesn't have as many scenes as I would have liked, I enjoyed what he did with the character and the layers he managed to impart are a testament to his extraordinary abilities as an actor.
Perfect Stranger: not a great movie, but I'd watch it again just for Giovanni.
Lost in Translation: Giovanni doesn't get a lot of attention, but he was my favourite part of a movie which otherwise didn't really work for me (I know you're supposed to feel sorry for Charlotte, but what did she expect? Her husband is there to work, he's not on holiday so if she wants to tag along she's gotta find something to do with herself)...
Cold Mountain and Public Enemies: both extremely small parts, disappointing if that's the only reason you saw the movie (as was the case with myself and Public Enemies, it's a fairly good movie but I would have enjoyed it more if I wasn't hanging out to see Giovanni so much ).
Any more recommendations people have are very welcome (and for that matter, people might as well recommend against some films if they wish, I know for myself since I have to order most movies from overseas it is important to know what's worth the trouble and expense and what isn't).
