Cross-Race Facial Recognition

It's a real issue!! http://www.apa.org/releases/facerecog.html .

I'm black by the way, and I have often in terms of remembering the two actors (not looking at one in a photo or film) confused MCD and Ving. Just like everybody else! However, it's been suggested scientifically that a white person will most likely have a much more difficult time than I do in this case.

I have to say, my first year at U of Oklahoma, some of my classes were attended by literally hundreds of white guys all wearing baseball caps and sweatshirts. And well into the semester I honestly couldn't recognize anyone in particular! I remember one time my then-boyfriend (who is white) was slightly shocked when he was waiting for me at the airport in a small crowd and I looked right past him as I was walking.

It's funny because MCD and Ving look nothing alike. I've never confused the two. The only similarity is that they are both black and have bald heads. But that's it.

Uh, MCD is a taller guy for one, and doesn't sport facial hair in any film. And his eyes are more squinty. I think it's retarded that anyone could confuse the two.

I was at a restaurant the other day and the waiter was very good. He was a large black guy. At the end of the night, I wanted to leave him a big tip so I walked over to where he was hanging out with some other waiters and handed him $10 and said "thanks for doing such a great job". He sort of looked at me strangely and said "OK". On the way out the door, my waiter passed and said "Have a good night." It was then that I realized that I just gave 10 bucks to the wrong big black guy.

Sh!t happens. It's not meant as an insult and anyone who takes it that way just wants to be insulted.

Im white and your either blind or nuts. The articles 7 years old and says no one focuses on eye color so they cant tell the differance. I think the other race slook alike idea is based on asians blacks spanish all have black hair and brown eyes. SO how sthe eye color going to vary so much when we have 1 color eyes for 80% of the world.

I never had trouble identifying anybody sept white people and Im white.

I used to work in a medical lab and had a really hard time telling some of the "older ladies" apart. They all looked like they had their bluish hair done once a week and had similar facial features and builds.

There was only one time I did not properly recognize someone. I had a BIG shot of demerol and my husband, who is black, put his hat on my brother, who is white. I did not have my contacts and must have been pretty messed up cuz I started walking toward my brother... It must have been the hat. Yikes!!!
