"Hispanic" is not a race. It's a culture and nationality. There are large enclaves and communities of black hispanics or "afro-latinos" in Cuba, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Panama, Chili and even Peru and Mexico among other latin countries in Central and South America. (Zoe Saldana and Rosario Dawson are obvious examples. Sammy Davis jr was of Cuban heritage). Just like there are white and native american hispanics (mexicans). Many black hispanics are descendents of africans who migrated or were brought to those countries in the 17 centuries or from nearby Caribbean countries like Haiti, Trinidad, Antigua, Jamaica, etc.

Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Colombians and Spaniards are four distinct but related groups of hispanics that include native american, african and/or european roots. There is no hispanic being who isn't a mix of one or more of these three races. And native americans have often been considered a migrant offshoot from the asian continent a thousand years ago so it's fair to say hispanics can be a mix of all races on earth.

I went to a latina friend's wedding some years ago and though she looked like a typical cuban fair-skinned woman, her grandfather and some of her uncles were darker than Ving. I thought they were african american until I tried to talk with them and found they only spoke spanish. That's when I had to get educated because I also used to think that hispanic was a pure race. What they are is a pure and distinct culture.
