His BAFTA nomination for 'The Town' was announced on my 21st birthday

January 18th, 2011:

While I was immensely sad for Mr. Postlethwaite's passing on January 2nd, I was thrilled that he received recognition for such a magnificent performance in The Town!

I, regretfully, missed Fergus "Fergie" Colm's presence in my 1st viewing of The Town because of how effortlessly the character blended into the background. I expected a by-the-numbers thriller in seeing the film for the first time in the fall of 2010, and was thus confused when I received a much deeper experience.

Mr. Postlethwaite's work as "Fergie" is nothing short of brilliant in its subtlety! I count myself immensely fortunate to have observed his official recognition during the 2011 BAFTA Awards ceremony (though Geoffrey Rush won for his work in The King's Speech).
